Finding Joy in the Little Things: Coffee, Long Walks, and the Magic of Small Moments
The Search for Joy (Spoiler: It’s Closer Than You Think)
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about happiness—not the big, life-changing kind, but the tiny moments of joy that sneak up on you. You know, like when you take that first sip of coffee and it’s exactly the right temperature, or when you find a book so good you cancel plans just to keep reading (sorry, not sorry).
After taking a big leap in my life recently, I expected happiness to come in some grand, cinematic way—like me running through a field in slow motion, hair blowing in the wind. Instead, I found it in the small things, the everyday things, the this is nice moments that often go unnoticed.
Coffee, Walks, and the Simple Things That Keep Me Sane
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that joy isn’t something we find—it’s something we notice. And for me, it looks like:
☕ A quiet morning with coffee – Not just any coffee, but the coffee. The one that’s rich, warm, and makes me feel like I can take on the world (or at least answer a few emails).
📖 Getting lost in a book – The kind of story that makes you forget what time it is until you realize you’ve been sitting in the same spot for three hours.
🚶♀️ Long walks with no destination – Just me, my thoughts, and the occasional existential crisis about what to cook for dinner.
🎶 Hearing the perfect song at the perfect time – Like when a nostalgic throwback comes on, and suddenly you’re starring in your own music video.
Joy is in the Ordinary (Even When Life Feels Anything But)
It’s easy to believe happiness is waiting on the other side of big things—a new job, a major life change, a breakthrough moment. And sure, those things can bring happiness. But the everyday joys? They’re what sustain us. They’re what make the hard days easier and the good days even better.
So if you’re feeling like life is a little chaotic (or a lot chaotic), take a second to pause. Notice the small joys. Let them add up.
And if nothing else, start with a good cup of coffee. It’s a great place to begin. ☕💛
